Welcome
And yes it's still raining...
6/28/09 - So another year gone by, and onto year 41 :) No complaints at all. I still feel like I'm 20 and consider myself totally blessed to still be around and happy.Another good set of shows this weekend. LOD had a great jam on Thursday w/ some good friends that showed up. Also got news that there will be a new band hitting the scene in a month or so called "Occam's Razor" with Nikki, Billy, Weezer and Buddy on guitar. This band will be ripping, and I can't wait to see 'em myself :)
Saturday was the highlight @ Twin River, and although Alexa had a real bad throat goin into the night, she made it through and we had a blast. We won't be back there until November, but we left 'em with all we had. Of course Shawny and I had breakfast with 3 hot chicks afterwards haha :) Lots of fun...
This week we have studio time for Billy and I on Tuesday, Barr None gig @ Slammers on Friday, and Billy sittin' with Big Idea on Sunday, along with live band karaoke, and a Fast Times gig down in Connecticut, so it will be a fun busy week.
But the biggest thing happening this week is my poochy Ernie's 1st Birthday on Tuesday!!! :)
See ya next week, Randy
Hello rain lovers...
6/22/09 - Well amidst all the rain, we had some great shows this weekend. Starting w/ the Barr None show @ Whips and ending with a crazy night for the Big Idea last night. The highlights were Special Olympics and Pelham on Saturday. The kids were a blast and we had a bunch of good singers and a really good drummer get up onstage and jam with us!! Always a lot of fun and the kids had a blast! Later that night Pelham was just about as crazy as I've seen it. Just sooo many people and crazy ones at that haha. Good times and a lot of fun shows. So this week we get LOD back in action on Thursday, and a trip down to Twin River for what's sure to be a blast on Saturday. Hope you can make it out to a show :) Peace, Randy
Full weekend ahead...
6/17/09 - Have a full weekend ahead of shows, including the Special Olympics show w/ Fast Times on Saturday. Always a fun show and the kids are the best!! We also have a Barr None show on Thursday along w/ Fast Times back down in Newport @ The Pelham. Overall it should be an interesting, tiring bunch of shows. We also are still in the midst of tracking the BN III record, as well as an acoustic CD to go along with it so we're nice and busy :) Hope you all have a great week/weekend, and we'll rap atcha later....Peace, RB
Seeing double..
6/8/09 - A little news snipet for ya. The studio has been going well, and we've decided that BN III will be a double album!! We're psyched and hope you will be too when you get a crack at hearing it :) Cya, RBSongs are picked...
6/4/09 - Well we narrowed the choices of songs down to 35, and then finally down to the 10 that will go on the record. We also have selected the 5 covers that we'll put on there as well. Hopefully we'll get it finished soon and we'll be ready to start on Barr None IV haha ;)The happy and the sad.....
5/28/09 - First off Happy Birthday Cunningham!!! Secondly, been gigging a lot as usual, but the weather's getting nicer and looks to be another fun summer of shows.I have a bunch of Thursday gigs w/ Fast Times coming up and my buddy Erick Preston will be taking over the jam out at Slammers. Stop by some Thursday night and check him out and do some jammin!!
Although I've been busy w/ shows, but the studio work is still underway for Barr None III, and should have some snipets for you next week so stay tuned.
On a personal note I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers to Channing & Michael who lost their Dad recently to a heart attack. We had some tough times at the end of our time together w/ Lagroove, but I will always consider them family, and Will treated me so good when I was in Texas. My heart goes out to the guys and the family. God Bless you Will....
Barr None III
5/4/09 - Hey peeps, another update here for ya. Tonight we start breaking ground on the new Barr None record, and we're psyched! Will be a blast as always, so stay tuned for sneek peeks and updates on the sessions.Had a great Barr None show on Friday, thanks to all who came down for the last minute gig @ Slammers. We're right back there on Saturday May 23rd so mark your calendars. Also had a fun Fast Times private show w/ Caroline fillin in on Lead Vox for the band. She was a lot of fun and a rippin' singer as well. Minus our "True" setback we had a lot of fun that night haha.
Tons of more shows this week, so come on down to anyone of 'em and you'll have a great time. Peace, RB
Nice weather, new singer....
4/27/09 - Hey gang what's up? Finally getting some nice weather and looking forward (kinda) to the summer. Although I'm not a fan of the hot weather, summer is my fav time of the year, go figure??We have some news from the Fast Times camp announcing our new lead singer Alexa!! She's a great addition to the band, and we hope you'll come out to meet and support her this summer :)
We had a great time at the Barr None show last week, and thanks to all our friends for coming down to hang out with us. As leaked earlier in the weekend, we will be recording the 3rd Barr None record next month and we are psyched!! We're looking to release it June/July so stay tuned :)
Thanks again for coming out to all the shows this weekend, and they'll be plenty more to come....Peace, Randy
Barr None show plus....
4/21/09 - So this week we have the Barr None show lined up on Thursday night. Hope you can come out and enjoy some music with us. My good bud Mikey D from "The Hitmen" will be filling in for me w/ Fast Times in Quincy, Thanks Mike!! We also are in the midst of planning the next Barr None album. It's been awhile but I'm looking forward to gettin more tunes recorded. As always I have 2 Fast Times shows in Boston and Rhode Island as well as The Big Idea on Sunday night. Stop by and say Hi :) Peace, Randy
Fun, fun, fun....
4/12/09 - Yes we did have exactly that...fun!! A crazy show @ Twin River wrapped up another great week of shows for me. Thanks to all the peeps for making every show better than the last one at The River. Minus the smoke, that place is a blast to play!! Shawn and I got to hang after the show with my niece Kayla and her very cute and funny girlfriends Lindsay, Kareena and Brianne. We had some fun adventures in late night breakfast ;) But we'll be back @ The River in June, and already can't wait :)Hope you all had a nice Easter Sunday. I had a good time on my puppy play date haha, hanging with the one and only Curtis & Anna, and of course Molly :)
This week we have Weezer back on the bass at the Jam on Thursday, which is always fun, and the normal week of shows as well. Hope to see you out there :) Peace, Randy
Jammin!!
3/30/09 - Another fun week of gigs. This week had 3 Fast Times shows sandwiched by Karaoke and The Big Idea. Played a new club in Quincy, then headed to Worcester State College for an 80's party. But the best gig was another 80's party/Apres ski show at Sunday River, Maine. Tons of kids there that we had a blast playin for and they loved it. Always fun playin for the kids, brings it down to the basic reason we do this...for fun!!Last night we had our best gig yet with The Big Idea. We're starting to gel and hook up w/ each other which is very satisfying musically. Should be a fun bunch of Sunday nights in the summer.
So 2 nights off, then back to the swing of things. Haven't been at the Open Jam in a month so that will be good to do again. We have more new tunes to bust out as well. Some KISS, Van Halen, etc.. Lookin forward to it.
Have a great week, and until next time....
The demos...
3/24/09 - So I've written a lot of songs and I've been asked a few questions about the process/end result. I know there are many songwriters out there going thru the same thing at some point, but maybe not haha.I have been recording riffs here and there, whenever they come about really for about 12 years now. I have tapes upon tapes of them. When I started getting the itch to write more than just riffs, I got into lyrics and melodies. First off, I write what I want and what I like!! I take my stories, feelings and influences and go where the song wants to. I'm still amazed that these songs come out of me, and I know it's a gift from above without a doubt!
Of course getting the ideas from riff to finished song is a whole other process. Sometimes easy, sometimes not. From all the great songwriters I've admired over the years I've learned what they've taught, "Don't beat it into the ground, it comes when it comes." I've had similiar experiences for sure. From not being able to get a song to flow, to waking up in the middle of the night and writing a song from start to finish in a few minutes. Those are the best :) Inspiration at it's finest!! So I take all these ideas and put them into a song.
Then the Catch 22 starts. I hear all these great things in my head, but to get them all onto a 4 track recorder isn't easy haha. I've been lucky enough to record 2 albums of them w/ Barr None, but I have sooo many songs on a crappy 4 track with one mic it's hard for everyone else to get the feeling/vibe/meaning of my songs. To be honest, it doesn't really matter because I love the songs and they mean the world to me but, it's also part of the goal to have people like what you create. To make a difference, and have people feel what you felt when you wrote it.
So I hope you can get out of my demos/songs something to move you like they move me. The quality of the recordings are rough, but the songs are there and I hope you listen and enjoy them.....Peace, Randy
Spring has sprung....
3/23/09 - Winter's done and although it was a blast playin w/ my pooch in the snow, I'm glad it's over! But it'll be hot soon, and I'll be wanting winter back again :(Hope you all had a great weekend? I had some good shows/some bad shows, but it's all good in the end.
Had a great time jammin w/ Barr None last Thursday, and we even had some Party Posse peeps show up!! Was good to see them again, and they may show up to the Slammers gig next month as well. Those guys were the best gang to play for. They had the good time thing down to a science!! We had many great shows with them, and hopefully we'll get some more in there as well?
Looks like we got some bad news as well. Beth will be leaving Fast Times in a few months to spend time with her daughter, so we will be on the singer search now. She will be hard to replace for sure. She commands the stage like it's hers and she thrives on the attention. Big shoes to fill for us.
Another busy week of shows including a Fast Times 3 banger Thur-Sat. Come on out for some fun, and until next time....Peace, RB
It's MadnessTime!!!!
3/16/09 - Yesss!! Hoops mania is back. Hope you got your brackets filled out?? I'll be pulling for my 'Cuse boys once again, after they had a great Big East Tourney. We had the Karaoke finals last Wed and congrats go to Lauren for rockin Sweet Child to win 1st Place!! Good job girl. And my fav ;) Brookelyn grabbed runner up w/ a steamy version of Hit Me w/ Your best shot!!
Also had a great weekend of shows with Fast Times, and the Sunday Big Idea gigs are just gettin' warmed up as well.
This week we bring out the Barr None boys (and girl) and head over to Whippersnappers in Londonderry, NH. Come on out for this early show from 830-1130. Nikki will be singing her butt off to all the great tunes you remember. We're also bringing back some older BN tunes as well, so it will be a fun show!
I've also put up a bunch of new demos on the Music page, and the newest ones are posted at the top. Hope you like 'em and tell me what ya think?
Until next time, catch me @ any one of my 5 shows this week, and don't worry Summer's comin' people......Peace, R Barr
Well how 'bout this week??
3/7/09- Well maybe we'll get the new bass gig goin' this week...unless a blizzard comes in again?? Anyhoo, enjoyed a nice chill night off at home after another cool week of shows. Especially dug the jam @ Slammers. Had a full house of players, and had Wally on the drums blastin out some great moments. Also a sad note to pass on. Kyle Sweet, wife of Michael Sweet, passed away last week after a fight with cancer. All my prayers and good wishes go to Michael and his family. Stryper's music and Michael's singing are very inspirational to me, and it was very sad news to hear. God Bless you Kyle.
Until next time, I'm lookin forward to the bass gig tomorrow night, and more shows this week. Time to spring ahead and get some sleep....Peace
An ending, and a beginning....
2/23/09 - Well another crazy weekend/winter in the books for Fast Times @ Widowmaker. This one was just as good, if not better than before. 3 great packed shows of craziness, and mayhem. Of course the best way to have shows right? We're finished up there until next winter, but we'll be back to rule the mountain!!And now onto the beginning. Sunday will be the first show of "the Big Idea" w/ me on bass. Should be fun, and I have 2 more good musicians to jam with. I hope you'll swing by some night and say hello to us.
I also have been putting up a bunch of new demos, so check them out when you're bored. I'll be re-arranging them by date so you'll know when the newest ones are up :) Peace, RB
Another gig??
2/9/09 - Hello again...Hope you've all been doing well? Some news to pass along. I was just offered the bass position for a Sunday night house band down in Boston @ Paddy O's. I'm psyched and fortunate to be in the positon to be gigging so much. The band is called "The Big Idea" and it's a 3 pc rock/pop/blues band playing all the great tunes you know and love from the past 40 years or so.I play alongside John & Matt from the band Dick & Jane, also veterans of the Boston music scene, and it will be a good time. They are good guys and real good players, so I will get my bass chops up to speed : ) I'll also be singin alongside John, who has a great voice, and we should sing well together. Hope you will check it out sometime? We start March 1st and it should be a great summer!! Peace, RB
Almost....
2/1/09 - Well Kurt and the Cardinals almost pulled it off, but fell to the Steelers. Bummer for me, but I know my boy Cunning is psyched. He's a looong time Steeler boy, so congrats to him and all the Steelers fans out there.Had a great show with Barr None on Friday. Have to thank everyone for coming out and hanging with us, especially the Fast Times gang for makin' the long trek up to NH for the show. Probably won't have another one until April, but I'll let ya know when it happens.
February is upon us and another month full of shows to be played, so hope you can make it out to one of em? Peace until next time. RB
Friends...
1/22/09 - Had to go to NY for a funeral this week. The mother of Chris Gause had passed away, so I went to support my friend and pay my respects to a nice lady I knew since high school. Of course it would have been nicer to see my friends under better circumstances, but this is life so you see your friends when you can and laugh about the same stuff you always do. I did just that, had a great time laughing with great friends that mean a whole lot to me.Chris Gause was the first person I met walking into a new high school, and has been my friend ever since. He's inspired me musically beyond his knowing, and has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I played basketball with his brothers and cousins all the time, and they lost a great part of their family. They all got up in church and spoke of her lovingly, and that place was the warmest place on earth that night. I send his family and my friend Chris, all my prayers and thoughts on this tough time in their lives.
Another week...
1/15/09 - First off, Happy Birthday Martin Luther King!! A great man, and his dream, although very slowly, is coming together. Keep that in mind today!! Secondly, I've been lucky enough to be with my girl for 9 years??? Holy Cow, never thought that would happen to me, but I'll take it : )So we start another week of gigs. Tonight is karaoke, then back to the Slammer jam tomorrow, then Fast Times takes over the weekend. Come on out to a show and hang with us!! Also the acoustic gig never happened, thanks to the snow but we'll be back in Feb so stay tuned. Peace, RB
